Renewable Options
Exciting advancements are being made and there are various renewable energy options for individuals and companies to consider. Among them are:
An oft-cited drawback to some (but not all) renewable energy sources is that they are intermittent. However, research into energy storage systems is booming as well and paying off handsomely in terms of options and prices. Costs vary greatly, but some new, combined renewable+storage systems – even when including capital costs that existing power plants have already paid off – are underpricing existing fossil fuel operating costs. Some examples (most of these are categories that have multiple instances) of storage systems include: Gravitational potential, Compressed air, Flywheel, Thermal, Electrochemical, Hydrogen, Biofuels, Supercapacitors.
Renewable Energy Factors
There are many things to consider when determining the best type of energy for you. What is available in your area and price are two obvious ones. Also important are price stability, reliability, efficiency, provider service, and environmental impacts. Priorities may vary, and attributes may change – but fortunately, with electricity, it is possible (though not always easy – at least, not yet) to change energy sources when desired.
